What are Cataracts?

A cataract occurs when the eye's natural lens becomes cloudy. As this happens, vision steadily declines and becomes impaired.

If you have cataracts, they usually develop slowly and gradually over time. They may affect one or both eyes. As the natural lens in your eye becomes cloudy, it obstructs the passage of light, making it more challenging to see things clearly.

Advanced IOL Options

At Central Florida Eye Specialists, we offer a variety of premium IOLs that may allow eligible patients to experience greater visual freedom after cataract surgery. While some patients who don’t desire greater independence from visual aids will choose a standard monofocal IOL, premium IOLs offer many benefits for those who want to reduce their dependence on visual aids after cataract surgery.

Basic IOL

Basic IOLs have a fixed focal point, allowing you to see well at one distance. They provide clear vision at a specific distance, usually for seeing up close or at a distance. However, if you choose these IOLs, you will need to continue using visual aids because they can only correct vision at one distance. If you don't mind using reading glasses and other visual aids after cataract surgery, these IOLs can be an excellent choice.

Toric IOL

Toric IOLs are the only IOLs specifically designed to correct astigmatism. If you have astigmatism, the cornea is an irregular shape. These IOLs correct the refractive error, ensuring improved vision after cataract surgery.

Multifocal IOL

Multifocal IOLs help improve your vision up close, at a distance, and everything in between. These IOLs incorporate multiple focusing zones within a single lens. Its surface has different zones with a specific focusing power for each distance to ensure you can see clearly. Many patients with multifocal IOLs significantly reduce their dependence on visual aids like reading glasses after cataract surgery.

Multifocal Toric IOL

Toric lenses come in premium models for many IOLs, including multifocal IOLs. If you have astigmatism but want to enjoy the visual improvements of a multifocal IOL, you can enjoy significant visual advancements.
